What the exam actually is

Unlike the Kubernetes exams, the SAA is multiple choice and scenario-driven. Every question gives you four defensible-looking answers and asks which one best fits a constraint: cheapest, most available, least operational overhead. Recognising which constraint is being tested is the actual skill.

Who it is for

  • Engineers and architects designing on AWS
  • Professionals moving from on-premises infrastructure to cloud design
  • Anyone who needs the most widely requested AWS credential on job listings

Prerequisites

None. AWS suggests around a year of hands-on experience; a well-structured three months of deliberate practice can substitute.

Where candidates lose points

  • Read the last sentence of the question first: it names the constraint being tested
  • Storage classes, and when each one is the wrong answer, appear everywhere
  • VPC design, endpoints and NAT cost trade-offs are heavily weighted in practice
  • Fifteen of the sixty-five questions are unscored, so a few unknowns are not fatal

Why it is worth doing

It remains the single most requested cloud certification in job postings, and it forces a habit of justifying architecture choices rather than defaulting to the service you already know.
